The city of Valparaiso was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2003 and is a unique mix of now-decayed 19th-century opulence with the hustle and bustle of a modern-day working port. The city is the home of the Chilean Congress and has also inspired countless poets and artists, from Pablo Neruda to the explosive modern street art scene that decorates many of its neighbourhoods today. The city is a feast for the eyes and your other senses, everywhere you look you will want to take photos.
Viña del Mar presents quite a contrast to Valparaiso and boasts some of the best parks and beaches in the region, as well as the homes of many of the country’s rich and famous. Both cities are the gateways to some of the best wineries in all of Chile which can be found just 30 minutes drive inland in the Casablanca Valley.
About Valparaiso Port:
This is the largest port in Chile in terms of passenger arrival and departure. The Valparaiso port will always have a quay available for cruise ships where they can dock, so tenders to and from the ship are not required. Buses will take you directly from the ship to the VPT passenger terminal, where staff from Shore Excursions Chile will be waiting for you with your name on a sign. The terminal also has restrooms and a few simple shopping options.
